Located in the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, Fort Walsh was established as a NWMP post after a massacre of Nakoda peoples in 1873. The spot is currently a national historic site where visitors can learn about the massacre, as well as the lives of the aboriginal peoples who occupied the land before the arrival of the NWMP. There are also displays on the daily activities of the NWMP officers that lived and worked at the fort. There is an interpretive centre, a theatre, a food shop and a gift shop onsite.
