Southeast Region at a Glance
With its biggest cities of Estevan
and Weyburn
sporting populations hovering around 10,000, Southeast Saskatchewan is relatively
uninhabited, yet features a spectacular landscape. Characterized by rolling
prairies, hills, forests, lakes and the Qu'Appelle Valley, which stretches across
the region, the area's topography lends itself to an abundance of outdoor recreational
opportunities and, as such, the area is wildly popular in both summer and winter.
A number of provincial parks exist in the region and are ideal vacation spots,
providing lodging choices as well as activities like swimming, boating, water-skiing,
sunbathing and parasailing in summer, and cross-country skiing, ice-fishing
and snowmobiling in winter. Tourists flock to Moose
Mountain Provincial Park in Kenosee
Lake, Rowan's
Ravine Provincial Park near Strasbourg
and Fort
Qu'Appelle's Echo
Valley Provincial Park and Katepwa
Provincial Park. Skiers and snowboarders can come out to play at Mission
Ridge Ski Area. Meanwhile, the Indian
Head Historical Society Museum and the Grenfell
'Adare' Museum make it possible to take a break from activities and learn
about local history and culture.
